Polish Watergate III

Latest opinion poll…Civic Platform 34%...Law and Justice 18%!!!.....Self Defense 10%......
It’s a conspiracy, says government.

The secret camera used to record the bribe PiS vice-chairman Lipinski offered Beger (see previous posts) was ‘very characteristic’ of those used by the Polish Secret Service – the very service that the government is currently disbanding in its ‘de-communization’ drive, according to government spokesman, Przemysław Gosiewski (above).

On TVN 24 tonight he said that it was ‘interesting’ that the day Donald Tusk, leader of the opposition Civic Platform (PO) put in a motion to dissolve parliament, this secretly recorded tape emerges too.

Ah, I feel a conspiracy theory coming on…

This is the world the government lives in: one where the uklad – a system of back scratching between ex-communists and liberals – rules everything. Gosiewski is implying that the Secret Services (that nest of commies), liberal politicians like Tusk, and a gullible media are somehow ganging up to bring them down.

Instead of coming out and sacking everyone involved and admitting that they have a problem, they blame everyone else.

This is the politics of denial.

This is the politics of denial.

And it is the politics which PiS is using already from the beginning of their period.

I was terribly annoyed when watching the address of the prime minister on television. First he praised the budget for 2007, which the government accepted today, into heaven. A budget which is not at all that good as they make us believe. Practically all economists agree on that.

By the way - already whole day long, TVN 24 reports about some 200 people demonstrating in front of the Polish parliament. Since 20 minutes, the number of demonstrants has been actualised to 100. And I think here is one of the main problems of Poland. Everybody complains, but does nothing. How many demonstrants were there in Budapest during the first night? And the second, third? Exactly.

Is this scandal as big as the "we lied in the morning, we lied in the evening" disaster of Ferenc Gyurcsány?

I'm not convinced. And neither are Poles.

There's a planned protest on next Saturday - more Poland's style if you ask me (day off, time to decide what to wear) - what happens there will be a better indicator of Polish sentiment than this impromptu protest.

But probably still disappointing, if you're looking for a revolution.

Please, let’s have no more ‘orange’ ‘rose’ revolutions! They are rather patronizingly calling the Budapest thing the ‘track suit’ revolution…cause most of the rioters were right wing chavs.

And we have seen these ‘revolutions’ are nothing of the kind. If someone changes their socks quickly these days they call it a revolution.

But next Saturday’s demo could add to the momentum for change here. Getting people involved in politics is a good thing in a country where they think politicians are a bag o’ shite…

One photo from today's demonstration made me laugh.

For those that speak polish, but don't get it:
why duck = łaj dak

For those that don't speak polish
łajdak = scoundrel

I was going to use that photo for this post but blogger.com was going through one of its many shitty periods and I could not upload it....

The Hungarian affair has been blown out of proportion. Sure, the PM should have resigned but it's no revolutionary re-run of the 1950s. Let's hope the Poles sort their problems out with a new election.

Indeed it has. There is a no mass uprising etc. What really excited the media was the rioting, which done, mainly, by far right wing types who attacked ‘state’ TV building etc and want to bring down social democrat government.

In Poland the far-right types are the ones in government, so they won’t be storming the TVP anytime soon (though they may be storming TVN!). .

Hilarious how the word "provocation" is immediately hauled out and used again. No need to dust it down: it's in a perpetual state of gleaming readiness for action.

beatroot said...

...and it sounds strange to English ears. It's not the right translation, I think. I know what they mean but 'being provocative' was not what Beger was doing...or maybe she was with those 'kurwiki' in her eyes, the naughty scamp!

Would someone be kind enough to fill me in on the origins of the kurwiki? I mean the ones in Beger's eyes, of course -- who said it, and in what context? I can't stop hearing about them, but I'm unclear on who started the Beger/Kurwiki phenom.

Meanwhile, hot damn, do I love your blog.

Beger gave interview to tabloid daily Super Ekspres several years ago where she was asked wheather she enjoyed her sexual life; she did she said just as much as horses use to enjoy oats “Jak koń owies” and added that her friend told her she had kurwiki in her eyes “Kolega twierdzi nawet, że mam kurwiki w oczach”.

Was it in Supper Exspes or something like Viva? A piffle of a detail but these things are very important to Renata’s political legacy. It comes from the word Kurwa of course – so she has a ‘look of a little whore’ in her eyes….naughty scamp!

And thatnks for compliment, Anon, flattery will get you everywhere!

And can we have made up names instead of anonymouseseseses...gets very confusing...

Anyone know where you can find an English transcript of the Begergate tape?

It was Super Express according to wikiquote.org

It could not have been super expres that she was reading as she does not allow it in the house.

Fakt is much better!!!!!

Beger IS a center fold of the beatroot! Right!! I am proud to contribute then by informing you that it was Super Express! Your girl had to be reading a rerun! Luckily a bloger who typed the interview into his/her blog back in 2003 had also confirmed the source as Super Express.
