So I see he's a staunch admirer of Tony Blair and the Beatroot, not necessarily in that order. And Rosie L., too?
Who Rosie L?
He wrote a book about Rosie L.(not the Riveter). Y'know. Gustav's wife and Leo's girlfriend.
Beatroot
Orwell ???????? Orwell learned more in Spain than you have learned in your entire life.
Orwell unlike the Beatroot was smart enough to learn the deadly consequences of the idiocy he advocated. You merely continue to
revere Marx and pretend he is blameless for the mayhem of his followers.
I bet the impression, Bea-o-whak that you did not read Homage to Catalonia...and if you did read it then, not suprisingly, you didn't understand it.
So go and get a copy, and with lips moving silently in sync with words - for you are the kind of person whose lips move silently when reading to yourself - have another go at the book and you will see what an arse you are...:-)
Beatroot
It seems the salonista has delusions of grandeur. Sorry, but Orwell learned quickly lessons that clearly went over your head.
It is clear that as a mindless apologist for Marx you obviously haven't got a clue about Orwell. Maybe you need the pop up versions of Orwell that goes with your low IQ.
1. OK, what lessons did Orwell learn?
2. What in Marx to I have to apologise for?
Orwell learned the difference between
flowery meaningless words and its real world implications. He fled Spain and barely escaped with his life.
2 Now you are into ignorant mode. The term apologist does not imply you have to make an apology. It does imply you are in Ostrich mode and ignore the real human rights debacles created by repeated applications of Marx.
Orwell learned the difference between
flowery meaningless words and its real world implications. He fled Spain and barely escaped with his life.
Ok, another try. what flowery worss and what real life world implications?
and how did he flee the country barely escaping with his life? Do you mean the bullet he got in the neck from a Spanish fascist? If so say so.
But are you implying that Orwell went to Spain in support of republicanism but came back in support of Franco?
If you are then I repeat - maybe read a book before talking about it...
“Who are your intellectual heroes? > Marx, J.S. Mill, John Prescott.”
Please correct me if I’m wrong but it seems everyone is rushing to the conclusion that this is Karl Marx, just so there is no misunderstanding you didn’t mean Harpo or Groucho Marx?
Since Karl Marx was an obvious anti-Semite or at least someone very uncomfortable with his own background, I’m leaning in the direction of Harpo or Groucho Marx?
“According to them, Marx regarded Jews as the embodiment of capitalism and the creators of its evils.”
Flannery, Edward H. (2004). The Anguish of the Jews: Twenty-Three Centuries of Antisemitism. Mahwah, NY: Paulist Press, p. 168. ISBN 0809127024.
“What is the secular basis of Judaism? Practical need, selfishness. What is the secular cult of the Jew? Haggling. What is his secular god? Money. Well then, an emancipation from haggling and money, from practical, real Judaism would be the self emancipation of our age.”
On The Jewish Question by Karl Marx
It seems like Karl Marx was a miserable little man with a lot of really bad ideas.
Yeah, there has always been a bog debate about this. Did Marx have a self loathing? maybe. But most of the stuff about Jews comes from On the Jewish Question, which is way to comolicated to get into here.
Only to say that the essay is in fact a de,mand for political rights for all, and that means doing away with the restrictions put on Jews in many countries in europe at the time. for instance:
the emancipation of the state from all religion – i.e. the abolition of all religious qualifications for participation in public life – even if the overwhelming majority of Jews remain strictly Jewish."
Marx could be very nasty at times about all sorts of people - he was often a grumpy old git - but he is equally scathing of Christians, Germans...
Beatroot
You are into denial mode. Orwell's experiences in Spain allowed him to differentiate between flowery words
and their real life applications.
Marx was an anti semite, but this does not even begin to touch the crimes of his followers. You are quite familiar with the crimes of Marx's followers.
You should have taken the out offered by Jan and claimed to be referring to the Marx Brothers.
There is no wisdom in the Beatroot
salon. The Beatroot salon offers mindless rehashes of failed philosophers whose followers have caused needless death and destruction.
No...beako...what experiences did he have that allowed him to differentiate etc...I ask because I am convinced you have not read the book and are talking, as usual, out of your..
So to keep some credibility, try to be a little more conrete, there's a love...
57: It seems like Karl Marx was a miserable little man with a lot of really bad ideas.
--> You try sitting around in the library all day with carbuncles!
ooo...don't mention the carbuncles...
See? The personal is the political (and impacts on personality and character).
are you some kind of anti-carbuncle-ist?
I woundn't even wish 'em on Freakyskin.
Marx was fundamentally wrong and likely could not have imagined the folly of his ideas, as there were no attempts at implementing his ideas until after he died. A man of his time could not even imagine such a scale of destruction and loss of live that directly or indirectly resulting from his ideas.
If you confiscate all wealth and equally distribute it in society, over a brief period of time the same people who previously held a disproportionate amount of wealth will once again be in the same situation. People are not equal in terms of intelligence, ability and drive. Poland could be a good laboratory to examine this idea; the managerial class of the PRL seamlessly became the entrepreneurial class of today’s Poland. It would be interesting to go one step further and look for a relationship between the PRL managerial class and pre-war Poland’s wealthier/entrepreneurial citizens.
Tomorrow the political entertainment begins perhaps even high drama. All indications are an Obama victory with Democrat majorities in both houses. But wait I would vote against Obama he smokes and that inexcusable, however McCain only dumped his first wife for a richer second wife which indicates superior judgement. I can relate to this, who wants to drive the same car year after year.
With 8% of the voters undecided and an election system flawed by the potential for “irregularities”, do you really want to bet on the outcome?
Obama stopped smoking some time ago to be a good example to his kids. Just coz some dingalings are using an old photo of him smoking for silly propaganda purposes doesn't make it true now.
Superior judgement if the only moral ledger is personal accumulation of dollars and cents. The former wife, btw, was a close personal friend of the Reagans, especially Nancy who gave a very reluctant endorsement to McCain and who reputedly loathes the guy because of the way he caroused around on her and finally dumped her when she was still stricken from a horrendous car accident. Hey, I guess if his judgement was even better he would have taken her to the auto junkyard to be stripped for usable parts.
I am not betting on the outcome. My guess is it will be a lot closer than the polls indicate.
jan
Marx was fundamentally wrong and likely could not have imagined the folly of his ideas, as there were no attempts at implementing his ideas until after he died.
Which ideas...how was he fundementally wrong?
But wait I would vote against Obama he smokes and that is inexcusable...
I hope this is satire..and what does he smoke?
Senator Obama "quit" smoking about a year ago, he admits falling off the wagon now and again.
He smokes/smoked cigarettes.
Yes, its satire.
Marx continues to be wrong; in practice no application of his theories has ever been successful but rather to the contrary a disastrous failure. If a scientist came up with a theory, which no one could ever demonstrate through a successful experiment, one would question the validity of the theory. We have come to a point were many interpretations of his theory have been applied to whole societies and the result was uniform failure. Show me a single instance of a successful application of his philosophy.
Actually, it's not satire when it's used in propaanda that's been put out in emails, you tube videos, mentioned by Faux Newz, Rush Limburger and asst. radio Nazis to imply that Obama cannot be trusted, that he's a liar when it comes to his politics. Has he fallen "off the wagon"? I don't know and I don't really care other than to respond to the silliness and pettiness and even falsehood of the charges. So don't even think about becoming a US citizen and running for office, BR you nicotine addict you. Unless you run as a Republican and then it's perfectly acceptable and a non-issue.
It is satire if the author of the comment meant it to be satire as I did; it’s also propaganda if that was the intent of the author. The society’s level of polarization in the US is dangerously high. Whatever the outcome of this election, the result must clear and not subject to speculations or judicial circuses as was the case with some of the last elections. Nothing could be worse than to have nearly half the country view the person in the White as not being legitimately elected, particularly as we go into a difficult period, which will require some serious and credible leadership.
Marx continues to be wrong; in practice no application of his theories has ever been successful but rather to the contrary a disastrous failure…
If you are talking about Bolsheviks then, the theory of vangaard party, dictatorship of proletariat and all that then that was mainly Lenin. If you are talking about any prescriptive economics he had for the communist era then you won’t find them in Marx. He was always very very vague about that.
But that is not the genius of Marks, who described, analysed, theorised about the emergence of capitalism, what made it special, both a destructive and production mode of production, and how he saw tendencies to crisis in that mode of production.
The stuff about forming of a political proletariat and that …well, he never said that capitalism would inevitably collapse (except in Communist Manifesto - probably as a rhetorical flourish) and a socialist utopia would emerge from the ashes. But he did expect capitalism to go the way feudalism went, eventually. And that change was the result of revolutionary class conflict.
Read it and you will see that it is very interesting stuff and much more.
The bit about the socialist revolution? Well, things have changed.
Congrats on getting on Normblog.
Also.. I'm voting for McCain. He already has his eight homes. Obama, on the other hand, is just starting to accumulate homes and as such he will be more apt to "spread the wealth" in his own direction, if you know what I mean.
Seriously, even the MSM journalists that "promoted" his candidacy are asking who this guy really is. Not a good indicator of transparency or trustworthyness. He has even refused to produce his birth certificate. What's that all about? He may not even have the legal qualification to be POTUS, for all we know.
Well, 57, I'm glad you were just goofing around. Problem, though, is that our audience on the BR is probably more than a few people less than the audience obtained by Faux, Limburger, et. al.
Yes, Roman. How can we know who Obama really is after a year and then some of campaigning and media coverage of all stripes? And the birth certificate thing is more silly propagandistic bullshit. Are you seriously suggesting that he is not a valid US citizen? That he is loyal to a foreign power? WTF? How about McCain not fully releasing his health records?
ge'ez,
Hey, don't have a cow. We, the voters, can't even ask? Obama could have put this matter to bed a long time ago by just releasing the long form of his birth certificate. What's he hiding? This exemplifies perfectly why many voters do not trust Obama. We need to know the man before he can be our leader. Your immediate need to downplay the Obama campaign's evasive maneuvers to hinder any kind of investigation into his past is fairly typical of the lockstep Obama sycophancy that is so prevalent nowadays. Why do I keep hearing the words “move along, nothing to see here” whenever an Obama supporter needs to defend him?
Health records have ligitimate lawful protections against discrimination based on age and insurance purposes. The long form of a birth certificate has no such lawful protections and can only be kept from the public for personal discretionary reasons. The tape being held by the LA Times of a dinner obama attended where anti-semitic comment were thrown about is another example of this political cover-up. Running for presidency should be a practice of total transparency. Let the voters decide what is relevant.
If you can prove that he was not born in the US, please do. You can't, so you just talk shit. If anybody could prove it, you can bet any money they would have. Spend a little time googling the issue instead of just reading divisive drivel. Actually, he was born on Krypton. What the hell am I doing responding to such ludicrous charges?
You keep raising nonsense issues instead of real issues. Gee, I wonder why???
How much more can you possibly need to know about Obama? There's prolly more known about him than anybody on the planet.
What do you know about McCain? Transparency? Do you know he called his wife a cunt in public? Do you know how and why he dumped his previous wife? Do you know what his tax policies are? Not that the latter matters to somebody who brings up the ridiculous non-issue of Obama's citizenship.
You don't think a potential president should release "the long form" of his health records? That's rather foolish, I think, especially when a loon like Palin is a heartbeat away from the presidency. Where's the total transparency you call for here?
Cover-up? People who want to believe the worst of Obama will do so no matter what. Now you try to impute that he is anti-Semitic? Did you see the clip of the Faux News guy where even he went off on those charges?
Take good care of that cow come Tuesday night!
Geez
Roman is correct about the LA Times tape. Why is it being hidden from view. There is almost certainly something on the tape that is being hid. Bill Ayers just mysteriously happens to appear at the same event.
At best his non reaction to incendiary anti semitism would be an issue. Or more than likely his own remarks conflict with his current positions. At a certain point of being all over the map one wonders what Barak Obama we will get at any moment.
Roman is also correct about his birth certificate. It is a minimum
job requirement and Obama is required to show his certificate.
Obama should have put this to rest ages ago. His refusal to do so is starting to create legitimate concern.
Moving onto the salonista and Marxist apologist. Sorry, but your
attempts to absolve Marx from any blame for the actions of his followers are a type of genocide denial.
You are off into the realm of theology. Repeated failures are always blamed on the individual because the faithful were not quite pious enough. The notion that the system does not work and is deadly
just never sinks into the thick skull of the true faithful. Lab rats are more capable of learning than communists.
It looks like you have two trolls, one anonymous and the other familiar. Graeme just recently removed Beakerkin from his blog.
The Spanish Civil war shows the main enemy of Stalinism, wasn't fascism or capitalism, but revolutionary socialism. Stalin was willing to come to terms and arm a popular front capitalist government, as well as go into a pact with Hitler. The only group he was opposed to uncompromisingly was the socialists as in POUM, who were too independent for him. Why doesn't Beakerkin answer concretely when you ask him several times to explain himself? It's called trolling.
I'll go out on a limb and predict Obama wins.
Why did the LA Times not make available the tape of the dinner Obama attended with Rashid Khalidi a Palestinian academic who supports a two stage solution, to the Middle Eastern sideshow? Why not read what the LA Times actually says? Beakerkin is again finding conspiracies. Do you think for a minute, that if it was politically expedient for Obama, he wouldn't throw the Palestinian scholar and Bill Ayers under a truck in two seconds?
More anti-Catholicism and collectivist anti-individualism from Sneakerskin:
"You are off into the realm of theology. Repeated failures are always blamed on the individual because the faithful were not quite pious enough."
Makes sense to me.
And Ren, your defense of Stalin is on a par with Sneakerskin's drivel. Is that defense really the Trotskyite line?
Ands since Sneak and Roman assuredly won't go out of their way to actually do any reading outside of being spoonfed by the likes of Faux and Limburger, here's a snippet from that assessment by Hitchens, a strong supporter of the supposed war on terror:
"My main point, though, is not to call attention to the bullying and demagogy of McCain's attack. It is to observe how completely it undermines any claim on his part to foreign-policy experience. Khalidi has been known to me for some time and can easily be read and consulted by anyone with the remotest curiosity about the Israeli-Arab dispute. He is highly renowned, well beyond the borders of his own discipline, for his measure and care and scruple in weighing the issue. If he is seriously to be compared to a "neo-Nazi," then the Republican nominee has put the United States in the unbelievable position of slandering the most courageously "moderate" of the Palestinian Arabs as a brownshirt and a fascist. What then has been the point of every negotiation on a two-state solution since President George H.W. Bush convened the peace conference in Madrid in 1991? Nazis, after all, are to be crushed, not accommodated. One would have to think hard before coming up with a more crazy and irresponsible statement on any subject. Once again, it seems that McCain utterly lost his bearings."
Isn't it pathetic this stuff about Obama "not being an American.."! Really desperate attempt to the water out of the sinking ship. I am no Obama supporter but tonight I am going to stay up very late (in Europe) to watch what I hope will be a Republican massacre.
God Bless America!
ge'ez,
Is it too much to ask for the birth certificate and the tape?
Please answer the question and stop accusing me of tactics you obviously employ. Obfuscation is on display for all to see..
Yeah, Geez, stop Obfus... Obfusca ...Obfuscating..
The issue of Obama and the LA Times tape are a non-starter, the owner of the tape has every right to dictate it’s use and level of disclosure. A news agency that screws it’s sources is a news agency that going to find new news sources difficult to come by. Any reporter worth his salt could try interviewing the people who attended the event and get the facts without the benefit of the tape and that doesn’t seem to have happened. Perhaps there’s no story here. It is not a crime to comprehend both sides of an issue; it often reflects a good education.
The birth certificate issue means little, if it was a problem and something could have been proved it would have been used long ago by both democrats and republicans who had a vested interest in removing Obama from the contest. Makes me think there nothing there either, if there should be an issue the courts are able to address it in the future anyway.
So here goes my prediction Obama wins by a small but convincing margin.
I know it makes people feel good but trying to divorce Marxism from Stalinism doesn’t really make sense. Marxism to Leninism to Stalinism was a clear progression of ideas adapted to fit the circumstance of the moment.
A progression, perhaps, but only with hindsight and because of historical agency of all kinds.
I will try not to obfuckate from now on.
The crap about citizenship and the very moderate Palestinian guy are just too tiny drips from the puking faucet of Faux News, et. al. Don't forget the tobacco use blockbuster, too! Maybe if you had heard all the streaming shit from the get go, you would have been more decided long ago., BR. I really have never seen firsthand campaigning so continually rotten and petty in electoral politics in my tired old life. And they can't even come out and say the word they really want to say. Talk about an obfuckating situation.
And there was a clear continuum from Hillary to McCain, I'd say with no provisos.
Oh-oh. It seems McCain funded the Palestian guy. Big oops. And John used to address ACORN gatherings, too!
McCain Funded Work Of Palestinian His Campaign Hopes To Tie To Obama
During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth half a million dollars.
A 1998 tax filing for the McCain-led group shows a $448,873 grant to Khalidi's Center for Palestine Research and Studies for work in the West Bank. (See grant number 5180, "West Bank: CPRS" on page 14 of this PDF.)
The relationship extends back as far as 1993, when John McCain joined IRI as chairman in January. Foreign Affairs noted in September of that year that IRI had helped fund several extensive studies in Palestine run by Khalidi's group, including over 30 public opinion polls and a study of "sociopolitical attitudes."
Roman - the reason that this kind of nonsense has entered the campaign is cause they seem to be scared to argue what they believe in. And that's firstly because Palin and McCain are two very different politicians...I don;t think he feels comfortable with her at all. He wanted that Democrat defector old geezer. Much more like him. And secondly they don't know how to turn it around. They know this is the SUPER PERSONALITY election - and Obama has bags of the personality stuff.
So McCain comes up with Lipstick Pitbull!!! It's rather pathetic, dont you think. So forget passports, OK?
And so they sink lower, lower still...Obama is an Arab/Islamist/Terrorist...GET ME A BUCKET.
I honestly hope they get an electoral pineapple up their arses. .
beatroot,
When the USA was prepping to attack Iraq, there was a vacuum of journalistic persuit in the cause of why we should NOT. It's happening again in the case of Barrack Obama. The MSM (and ge'ez)has given him a pass on just about everything. It is plain to see that he is a charismatic orator and is fairly intelligent. I am not accusing him of any of the things that the Obama mama "ge'ez" is implying. To really know the candidate, it makes very little sense to just listen to the words he or the media recites or the books he wrote. To give these words the integrity that they stand for, one must know the man and what he stands for. His past associations and actual deeds go directly to this vetting process. How he has behaved and his past associations up to this point are the only concrete evidence as to his future capabilities and sense of judgement. His credentials and accomplishments to date are abysmally small for the lofty position he seeks.
The Obama mama ge'ez?
YO mama!
roman said... “His credentials and accomplishments to date are abysmally small for the lofty position he seeks.”
This is an American cultural issue; star powers trumps all else including common sense. Yes he has gotten a free ride and his resume is not good enough for this high office. But Bush didn’t have a resume worth much either and he got elect twice (more or less). Obama’s opponent has little charisma and looks like yesterday’s man, in the end attaching the Alaska clown act only bought momentary attention as one might have expected of a freak show. Given two such choices you can flip a coin or just go with the younger and more articulate guy.
The same mentality votes in the same way for congressmen and senators and you should see some of the garbage that gets elected. America needs a civics class big time!
Firstly America’s best and brightest don’t run for public office and the American public are relatively ignorant on foreign policy issues and often on domestic issues. Professional mass marketers who understand the public far better than the public knows itself sell the political candidates to the public. Forget issue and substance, if you have the money and the best marketing people you win.
Latest exit polls:

Here we go again with the clowns of Marx in denial mode.
The job of President requires birth in the United States or in a military base. The fact eludes Beatroot who is an expert as subterfuge.
The LA Times hid this videotape for obvious reasons. This is not a conspiracy, but just another act of media malfeasance.
However, the father time has not been kind to the MSM. Every week readership declines and more papers
fold and the new media is more profit and ratings driven. The election of Obama is likely its last gasp.
Obama will try in vain to reward his friends in big media and education but time is running out. When Americans see their paychecks
decrease and no job creation they
will turn on Obama very quickly.
The Salonista and his minimum wage goon have not quite figured out what put Obama in the Whitehouse.
Obama was placed in due to the financial mess and concealing who
he is. He will not be able to do this as President and the honeymoon
will end quickly.
The Clintons will sabotage Obama and there will be a plethora of scandals. The only thing that will
save Obama is the realization that
Joe Biden is a cartoon.
Onto the spleen
Beatroot is a genocide denier of another sort. He sits in his salon
and waxes about how to reinvent Marx when the results are obvious upon any inspection.
Renegade Eye is a clown who knows nothing. The real history of Trotsky is that of a war criminal.
Saddam, Hitler and Pol Pot also have their admirers who are as reality based as Ren.
WTF? Sneakerskin calling it for Obama before all the polls close?
57 giving it to Obama, too?
7:45 EST (East Coast) I'm going to say that McCain is going to win. Racism prevails.
9:26. Faux just called Ohio for Obama. Like I said, Obama's going to win.
ge'ez,
Had your cow yet? Watch out for stretch marks.
If it's Faux news, why are you watching it? The question is rhetorical, no need to answer.
Why am I watching Faux News?
It's better comedy today than the Colbert Report!
Lotta stretch marks formin' on a lotta faces there!
How you doing Romy? Movin' to Canada (or Alaska)? Or reorganizing for Sarah's ascendency? Either way, good luck and Godspeed t'ya!
ge'ez,
Thank you for those heartfelt good wishes. Actually, I kinda like Canada but am very comfy right here.
Sarah in '12!
Hope you're ready to defend Obama when he gets the Bush media treatment. He's gonna need you soon since he won't be able to deliver on all those pie-in-the-sky promises he made.
Palin-Guiliani! That's the ticket!
Hope you're ready to defend Obama when he gets the Bush media treatment
It all depends on the economy. He will have a honeymoon with the media for a couple of years. He may really dazzle not just the journos but everybody. He could be a huge world dtar.
For two years he can also blame the Bush administration for everything that is wrong with the economy, wars in distant places...
But after that it will get trickier. But I think he is a two term president. Brzezinski was comparing him to the Kennedy moment in 1960. He could be huge. Could be a lightweight.
Faux will be attacking soon enough no matter what. Right now, they are too busy devouring each other.
beatroot said... “He will have a honeymoon with the media for a couple of years”
I expect he will be very lucky to get his first 9 months with the press in honeymoon mode. Don’t forget the Americans aren’t known for their patience. He also has virtually no room to manoeuvre, tax revenues are dropping and he’s made a commitment not to increase taxes for most people. In order to attempt any of the programs he has promised will require him to borrow money from the Chinese’s, Russians and Arabs who are likely to be leery about further exposure. He can also resort to printing money in desperation.
beatroot said... “Brzezinski was comparing him to the Kennedy moment in 1960”
For obvious reasons I hope the comparison isn’t that close. But Kennedy was more hype than substance.
At this moment it’s too early to get a feel for this new administration, once he picks his team and starts to govern, it won’t take long to see which way this will be heading.
The selection of Rahm makes things pretty clear on the domestic political and foreign policy fronts. We'll soon enough see what's what soon in terms of economics. It'll be interesting to see who he picks for overseeing environmental concerns. Iowa went for him and midwestern farmers who supported him have become very dependent upon the false panacea of corn-derived ethanol. At least there's some movement. But then again, that's not always a good thing.
Quote Obama:
"95% will get a tax break"
"no one making LESS than $250,000 a year will get a tax increase"
Bwaahahahhahahaha..tell us another one!
P.T. Barnum re-incarnated!
Well, the top five percent own more than half of all the wealth.
In 1998, they owned 59% or put another way, the top 5% had more wealth than the remaining 95% of the population.
The top 20 percent owns over 80 percent of all wealth. In 1998, it owned 83 percent of all wealth.
My guess is these percentages are considerably higher percentage now after 8 years of W.
That's in terms of wealth. Now in terms of income:
As the top earners' incomes have gone through the roof, their tax burden has shriveled. At the same time, the share of federal revenues contributed by corporations has declined -- by two-thirds since 1962.
PAYBACK TIME BABY! You can bet your booties it's coming!
OO think, Geez, that you are going to be one of many who are gonna be disappointed in Obama. The guy, in terns of what he has said about Pakistan, for instance, sounds like he has not learnt too many of the lessons that the Bushies should have taught him. That he seriously could consider driving into their territory in chase of Osama BogeyMan Laden shows that few in the US really get what they have done over the last seven years.
And in terms of dometic policy...don;t expect the rich to be dangling from the lamposts...it ain;t gonna happen.
I'm not at all pleased at this point with the direction his foreign policy seems to be taking but I don't have any problem with what he has said about Pakistan thus far. He still has a lot of wiggle room. I'm gonna note here too that I spent a good six months reading Fisk's magnum opus.
I don't want the rich hung but I want some modicum of fairness. The bastards have been robbing us blind for too long. We'll see how far Obama manages to push through legislation without it getting moyled.
I feel hope for the first time since the sixties. It's a different kind of hope, much more tempered, far less exhuberant, wild and crazy. But damn, it's hope that's been utterly absent for so, so long. It's a really weird feeling. It's physical even.
We'll see how far Obama manages to push through legislation without it getting moyled.
Well, this is the point. There are a lot of Clinton people surounding him, and they are telling him that getting too ambitious ends up as a disaster...remember the Clinton health reforms...etc?
So do not expect the "change" he has been talking about for soooo long.
Well, we'll see how he puts his bully pulpit to work.
The Rahn guy does freak me out a bit. On one side, he seems like an indefatigable and strong willed organizational genius. I have no problem with that. On the other hand, his strong attachment to Israel makes me wonder if we will ever develop any kind of sane Middle Eastern policies.
Technology truly is an inescapable aspect of our daily lives, and I can say with 99% certainty that we have passed the point of no return in our relationship with technology.
I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as memory gets cheaper, the possibility of copying our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's a fantasy that I dream about every once in a while.
