Oh, dear...isn’t life complicated.
Any divorce is bad news, really. It means something, somebody, some people, failed.
But for poor old Marta, 27, daughter of President Lech Kaczynski, a private failure has public symbolism.
Tabloid Super Express printed last week that she and husband Piotr have filed for divorce. They have a three year old daughter, Ewa. What’s worse it appears to have been Marta’s fault, as she is having - allegedly - an adulterous affair.
What’s even worse, the guy - another Piotr - she is having an affair with (allegedly), the beatroot understands, is (allegedly) the son of a member of the ex-communist - and Catholic President Lech’s arch enemies - the SLD!
[Correction – I since learn that the affair with this new Piotr took place after they spilt up (or something) and that both had other partners and that the divorce is on mutual agreement, and they are both very happy cooperating with bringing up the kid. Tke beatroot regrets any misimpression he may have caused and should be hung up outside the presidential palace by his short and curlys…anyway, where were we? Oh, yeah...]

Very Catholic President of Poland’s daughter to divorce

You guys have all the fun.
The sleazy American culture marches on, it is understandable that a public figure can have his life under a media microscope, I expect it goes with the territory. But the private lives of the family members especially people who are not elected to public office or who are not public figures perhaps should be treated differently.
In most western democracies people are coming to the conclusion that running for public office isn’t worth it and consequently the pool of candidates is now being rapidly reduced to the malcontents and the giftless. The following was put forward in an article justifying non-participation in the political process:
“We have gone down the American path in ending the distinction between public and private, looking at politics through the prism of fame and celebrity.
The media feed this habit because it sustains their profits. They try to legitimise it through "the public's right to know" but in practice, they could not survive financially without fostering society's voyeurism.”
It was once considered a duty of a capable and successful citizen to enter public life; it’s hard to blame people for not coming forward.
Poland as a young democracy could establish a novel tradition in political journalisms, hands off the family.
What fun would that be… But seriously, you can’t judge people out of context – especially when the context is soooooo juicy. Wasn’t it delicious to watch a gay daughter of an anti-gay politician defend his father’s anti-gay agenda and being outraged with the pro-gay politicians and journalists pointing out obviously less than honest persona put forth by said politician?! And, now she’s adopting a baby with her partner… c’mon .. if that’s not great news, what is? ... ok, that was not in Poland .. Same story here though… y’know the apple and the tree ‘thang’.. LOL. If you want serious journalism there is always NPR and Mother Jones (or their Polish equivalents - whatever they are.. )
I agree wholeheartedly insofar as the adult children keep off the political stage or if the children are minors.
I don't know what role K's daughter played in his election campaign. If she stayed out of it, leave the lady alone.
I was agreeing with janovak...
..so, you're saying that if you raise your kids to be thugs, thiefs, con artists or prostitutes it does not reflect upon you and your family values at all??? Not even a little bit??? You guys can't be serious...
I thought beatroot was against talking about the private lives of politicians? Here we are talking about the private lives not of some officials, but their family members.
I gotta say, that sounds just a bit hypocritical. Airing dirty laundry picked up in Super Express???
My own test for this kind of thing is hypocrisy, is the candidate/office holder preaching one thing in public and doing (or accepting of) another in private. Considering that the republicans in general were using homophobia to get votes I thought Mary Cheney was fair game.
In this case (AFAIK) PiS hasn't been pushing for an abolition of divorce or the criminalization of adultery, my inclination would be to not make a big deal out of it.
Except, that I think the most interesting figure here is the father of the boyfriend. What's his past and how will it/he be treated given PiS's lustration fever? If there's evidence that he's getting special treatment then that would absolutely be fair game.
Albert, did you become everything your parents raised you to be?
Don't you know any parents who are pretty decent people who wind up with at least one kid who has gone over the line in some way?
And why bring up thugs, thiefs, con artists or prostitutes?
Who knows what went on in the woman's marriage? If she didn't campaign for her old man, who cares? Actually, even if she did, I couldn't care less.
Seems like Rupert Murdoch's hegemony now has extended over BR media. Tis a pity.
And if it's ok to exploit her personal problems to go after her tata, then it's just as ok to go after the left because of Simon Mol.
Hypocrisy? Yea, sure seems like a shitload of it. But there are worst sins.
The piece was just the beatroot's contribution to St Valentine's day...

Dear Geez,
the K's daughter had a big role in daddy's presidential campaign: she and her ex husband were hanging (together with mum and dad) on thousands of billboards all over Poland. She gave endless number of interviews on how her daddy is great. We could read about all these family dinners and fantastic relations in K family. And now? Hmmm.. it's enough to change "computerly" Martha's partner photo and it all will be OK. :-)
It will be very interesting to watch the Polish political Montecchis and Capulettis, at least on womens press :-)
Thanks for the clarification on her involvement.
Still, I find it essentially boring. Not only boring, but Murdoch-like media frenzy over shit like this detracts from coverage of and public attention on much more important issues.
I am really sick of attack politics. I was thinking that the Dems were going to have an easy ride into the presidency in the US. Now, I'm not at all sure as the media is devouring each of them and encouraging them to devour each other.
Dear Geeze,
no problem at all :-)
I can understand that you find it very boring, but you are intelligent enough to understand that such stories as divorce of president's daughter, prime minister's beloved cat, vice-prime minister alleged love affair, head of opposition's daughter sleeping at her boyfriend's house - these are stories to keep less intelligent interested in politics.
Best regards

Yes, MbT, I'm afraid the BR does cater to a rather motley crew, myself unfortunately included.
I should reveal here that MbT is the beatroot's girlfriend, who has been commenting here without my knowledge!
Geez, meet Mrs. Beatroot!
Ah, so MbT is already knowlegeable as to Mr. BR's motleyness quotient!
Moja zona tez jest polka.
Nice, arn't they!
Hey, Beatroot,
it's a free country, isn't it? :-))
Mr. Geeze nice to meet you.

Best co jest, BR. You and I are blessed.
And, czesc, mbt. I see that you are a "bag lady." Nice stuff.
and Chagall, the dog, wants to draw your attention to his blog too, by the way...
A bi-lingual dog. Amazing. Seems like a subject in control of his destiny. Except when he's forced to wear a babuszka.
I have noticed that many couples get divorce each day which I think it's very sad. I recommend people who are about to get married that think this over until they feel totally ready.
