In an article in Wprost magazine MEP Maciej Giertych warns that feminism is a danger to men’s sperm count, and much more besides...(hat tip: Mike Farris)
Yes, in the suddenly dull world of Polish politics – how we miss the freak circus of the previous government – and under the deathly dull rule of Civic Platform...and Waldomar Pawlak, kook Euro deputy Maciej Giertych can always be relied upon to come out with statements and articles that never fail to amuse. Bless.
Giertych - father of ex-education minister in the previous, laugh a minute coalition government, Roman – has never been shy in getting involved in the great topics of the day. This guy is not just any old member of the European parliament – nope, Maciej is an intellectual colossus; philosopher, scientist...guru.
We have been privy to the delight of learning his views on evolution. We have learned of his great insights into relations and hierarchy of cultures. And some tittered. Others laughed so much they burst several blood vessels and caused a queue at the accident and emergency department.
Well, he has opened 2008 with a volley of criticism aimed at that great scourge of the 21st century....feminism and, you know, ‘women’s equality’ [?] - yes, I know that was all a bit 1970s, but not to our Maciej, who last must have left the house sometime during the 1930s – that shines with intellectual daring, brilliance and verve.
So what deep insight has Giertych into the nature of men and women and all that stuff?
According to his article in Wprost magazine, he sees women as ‘more delicate, more vulnerable, physically weaker’. Domestic life takes priority over work for the fairer sex, thinks Giertych.
And men? They constantly seek approval; they over use physical strength as a means of settling disputes. But not all is lost for men. They can take ‘sharp criticism better than women,’ thinks Giertych, with deep insight.
He writes that the roles men and women perform in society should be returned to their natural state.
“Men interfering in women’s role is harmful. This is proven when men are changing nappies, cooking, doing the dishes, or looking after sick people, etc...Apparently, all of us have the same skill,” Giertych cooed sarcastically.
The fundamentalist Catholic Giertych is not too keen on the contraceptive pill. But he doesn’t just believe that the pill is bad for women. It affects men too!
Giertych fearlessly fights scary feminists
Giertych thinks that Charles Darwin’s ideas of evolution – his favourite topic - put the notion in some women’s heads that they should not accept their second class status. Evolution means things can change. Equality is possible, think deluded feminists. But Giertych, in his article in Wprost, warns what awaits these gender warriors.
Giertych is just a bit of a tit. And even he probably thinks he is growing some, what with all those hormones in the water...

“Hormonal contraceptives do not only stop the fertility of women who take them, but everybody! Released in urine, and down into the local sewerage system and the unfiltered returns into our tap water.”

Feminists, at the end of life, when in the old people’s home, their friends dead and with no children, their feminism suddenly disappears.

Since you chose to piss around with this story, I couldn’t help myself when I came across this article on the Internet and here is a portion of it:
“A type of mushroom called Amanita muscaria grows in some parts of Siberia, and it contains a cocktail of hallucinogenic chemicals. One who consumes the sun-dried mushrooms will usually experience euphoria and hallucinations, but one will also experience a host of unpleasant side-effects, such as nausea, twitching, and an increase sweat and saliva output.
Most of the unwanted side effects can be avoided by putting the mushrooms through a special filter: a human. In the Koryak tribe in Siberia it is customary for an individual who consumes the mushrooms to save his or her urine in a pot for others to drink. The mushrooms' active ingredients are not metabolized by the body so they are excreted into the urine, but the chemicals which cause the unwanted side effects are filtered out by the kidneys. It is said that the potency of the mushroom does not decrease significantly until about the seventh time through.
But not everybody who imbibes urine is doing so for psychoactive pleasure-seeking. Many people drink it because they believe it makes them look and feel healthier, or sometimes because it's their last resort for survival.”
Since you chose to piss around with this story,
I think you best demonstrate how I 'pissed around' with this story....before I get somehow impressed by your contribution.
But are you suggesting that Giertych is on psychoactive drugs? If so then maybe you have a point...
Actually, on one count, Giertych might be right...
There is indeed a risk that female hormones (from anticonception pills) are present in tap water gained from surface water.
It's either too late, or I'm too lazy, to find references but I remember reading about it in reputable scientific reports.
Oh, and I remember because it was thought to be one of the causes why the average breast size is increasing ...
I'm not quite sure if there was a link with male fertility.
One can only hope Giertych will accuse feminists of causing big boobies.
Beatroot said “Giertych is on psychoactive drugs”
That idiot Giertych should try some of those mushrooms it would give him an excuse for some of his bizarre positions.
The issue of the Hormonal contraceptives appearing in the water supply and having a harmful effect on humans is often raised by anti-abortion / pro-life websites coincidentally affiliated with religious groups.
Mainstream science seems a little less dramatic as there seems to be no evidence of anything-serious happening to people. The hormones making it back in the water supply are so diluted they may have little effect. In some species of frogs and fish the results can be more noticeable and some studies have shown this.
Do you think our dear Mr. Giertych could be fear mongering?
Oh, and I remember because it was thought to be one of the causes why the average breast size is increasing ...
The primary cause of this is more likely to be the use of BGH. In Poland, it may also be the result of increases in calorie consumption, since food is no longer in short supply.
So bigger tits are a fact of a developing society? One of the indicators of economic growth is longer life span, reduction of infant deaths...and women's tits get bigger. Maybe soneone should tell the Economist?
Do you think our dear Mr. Giertych could be fear mongering?
I honestly think he believes this stuff. His letter to nature magazine last year when he was in his Creationist gibberish was touching in its sincerity.
He is a kook.
My guess is that the size of womens' (and mens') titties is more so predicated upon the hormones in red meat.
I sometimes, too, find global warming denial touching in it's sincerity.
Ooooo...that word 'denial...Mmmmm sounds a bit like....you know...Holocaust denial....Ooooo scary......
I always know people have lost the argument when they start to stoop as low as using that daft word.
Actually, you used the term first to goof on somebody within the past week or so.
All in good cheer...
When did I use the word?
"Digger...
You climate change deniar!!! There will be laws against people like you soon..."
Like I noted, you were goofing. As was I, sorta.
Actually, that "feminists with no children" quote is quite memorable, but Giertych should remember that many (usually more moderate) feminists have children.
Maybe Giertych is reflecting some of the prejudice in the Polish Roman Catholic Church towards woman in Poland.I notice that girls are not welcomed as altar helpers in the Polish Roman Catholic Church, where as they are welcomed in the British Catholic Church. A girl's place in the Polish Catholic Church is in the Choir, but never assisting on the altar! As my British Catholic mother says, they are 50 year's behind the times in the Polish Catholic Church and I believe that for sure!Time for girl's to be accepted as equals and not stereotyped by the Polish Church -not only seen as mother's and carers.
By the way ,men can be just as caring as some women and sometimes better!Men can be stereotyped by women like women can be by men. However to stereotype men and women equally together in Poland-you have to be a true Polish Catholic, like those of Radio Maria!
John,Poznan
Aren't mothers and carers equals?
“they are 50 year's behind the times in the Polish Catholic Church “
Not necessarily they are just in a privileged position with respect to the Catholic Church world wide, since there are a lot of Catholics in Poland, church attendance is still strong there’s been no imperative to adjust. Whereas western countries were the church has low attendance and a crisis with recruiting clergy, they have simply adjusted to circumstances and expanded the role of women. This isn’t a change of heart.
Expanded the role of women?
Altar servers are girls.
While there are some RC parishes in the US where women distribute the Eucharist (along side the priest who is still front and center) and read the Epistles, men Deacons still tend to prevail prestige-wise even where women are seen on the altar.
While I'd have no problem with women priests, my concern in attending Mass is not so much the sex or sexual orientation of the folks performing the shindig.
But jan's point about the pragmatism of the Church is still correct. As numbers fall they try and find other ways to get people back in church - if that means bending the rules to do then so be it.
If you don't believe me look at the Anglicans!
If drawing attendance was the main objective, they'd pull down the crucifix from the altar and put up a wide screen tv so the Mass would be more entertaining.
Indeed, that seems to be very much the style with evangelical mega-churches in the US, often located in shopping malls.
So what's next, a church next to the Tesco in Poland?
I did read recently, too, that there's a Hard Rock Cafe being put up next to the Kosciol Mariacki in Krakow.
And the Kazimierz Jewish district is being gentrified there as well.
I wonder if a person who just staggered out of a salon in a gin soaked stupor might be an expert on crank theories. Any word of Poles getting hit by space debris....still waiting.
Meanwhile failure to screen immigrants for deadly communicable diseases has 18 known casualties.
The sky is falling!!!!!!
What is the half-life of Freakerkinder?

....?
you guys crack me up! i'm lovin' the dry sense of humor displayed on your blog, BR.
Maybe I should have written "the gender" instead of "the sex" above...
above being:
While I'd have no problem with women priests, my concern in attending Mass is not so much the sex or sexual orientation of the folks performing the shindig.
please substitute "gender" for "sex"

Speaking of crank theories where are the dead Poles endangered by space debris? There was never any risk to the general public, except in the gin soaked fantasies of the demented.
Meanwhile a person who advocates knowingly admitting refugees with deadly communicable diseases should not talk about public safety or cranks.
Now have the Caliban like servant Geez fetch the Gin.
