Several of my friends have visited Egypt but I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on it.
It's fab. if you get a good hotel. There are many of them that look like Las Vegas - huge mock ..things...but if you get a good like one, like we dod then it's a great place to do sod all for a week or two in the winter.
It still is quite safe, though there is growing influence of the Weird Beard Muslim Brotherhood. each time I go I see more veils, for instance, and the place is still a dictatorship - although the West doesn;t seem to bothered as he is OUR BASTARD.
But all in all, beautuful country, nice people and gorgeous Red Sea.
My very simple ranking of places to take the family on holiday, awards large minus points to places where there have been enough terrorist attacks and plane crashes for me to still remember them.
It also awards minus points to any country in which I have previously caught nasty stomach bugs that required anti-biotic cocktails to kill off.
This tends to move Egypt down the list.
The terrorism threat/plane crash risk is so small; you are far more likely to be killed in a car accident at home than involved in a terror attack or plane crash in Egypt.
But these things are high profile, so scare people off. Shame really, Egypts a great place.
The risk of terrorism is there, but small. And generally, you are much much safer in Egypt than you are walking down the street Warsaw, London, Paris...
Bon voyage, Beatroot.

That's because all the criminal elements have moved to Warsaw, London and Paris where they enjoy the liberal justice policies. If they stayed, instead of a slap on the wrist when caught stealing, it would be a clean cut at the wrist.
Predatory yes, stupid, no.
That's soooo dumb, Roman.

It’s not to do with the criminals but rather the public; Cairo is alive at night with shoppers and people walking about. Your chance of being mugged or just assaulted is almost zero. Also in comparison to any European or North American “big” city, far safer having said this it is a city of widely contrasting circumstances.
The locals have a very low tolerance for street level crimes.
OK, my comment may have been a little "over the top" but I'll stick with the liberal justice system point. :))
