What the….?

We in Europe see CNN International, a very good, high quality 24 hours news channel...

What we don’t see, too much, is the CNN that Americans see.

I could not resist this: Keith Ellison just got elected as the first Muslim in the US Congress. Lots of interesting stuff to talk about there, of course.

Unfortunately, CNN’s Glenn Beck doesn’t rise to the challenge.

See CNN video here. It’s unbelievable.

Hi Beatroot,
I understand your concern...it was a bad interview. This Kieth Ellison is not on the national CNN news, though. I have never seen him before and the entire interview was very uncommon. He may be a local journalist for CNN that is not well-known, looking for ratings.

National news is far more moderate. Nothing like that is common.

They're both unfamiliar. Switch the names. I meant Glenn Beck and not Keith Ellison.

CNN blows. MSNBC, especially with the advent of Keith Olberman, has moved waaaay up.

Interesting somewhat related tie-in in terms of Muslims and Polish-Americans...

Hamtramck is a city within the city of Detroit. It's always been very working class Polish-American. Indeed the mayor is a very progressive (I hate to use such a designation but I'm too tired to split hairs) Polish American woman. But there was a big tift there a year or two ago about the sounding of the morning prayers from loudspeakers at Muslim mosque in the neighborhood.
See: http://www.usatoday.com/news/religion/2004-04-19-hamtramck-islamic_x.htm

Also, there's a Polish American punk band in Detroit or Hamtramck called the Polish Muslims that've been around for a 1/4 century:

ig da geez,
Sorry but even with Keith Olberman, TV's own political cartoonist, MSNBC is way, way down in the ratings. Believe it or not, Fox is number 1.

Ratings, schmatings.

Correct me if I’m wrong but CNN is a news service that’s to say the least 3rd rate at best. The BBC seems a lot more professional and vastly superior in its international coverage.

CNN also clearly tows the political line. The latest outrages are guys like Glenn Beck and others that mix the delivery of news with entertainment.

It is no wonder that the Americans are so clumsy in their dealing with the outside world when both the education system and media do such a poor job of keeping people informed.

Typically Europeans have are better informed on the international situation and more comfortable with other cultures compared to Americans.

Often people are quick to condemn American policies as malicious by design when really only driven by ignorance at the highest level of the political structures.

Are these stereotypes, over-generalizations? How can 300 million people be lumped together as ignorant? I suppose some solace can be taken in that Americans have not been uniformly cast as bloodthirsty but I'm bothered by such characterizations, nonetheless. Polish people are....
Europeans are.... The French are ... Those Russians are ... Or for that matter, Muslims are...
